The importance of proper maintenance

The importance of proper maintenance

A ventilation system is there for your comfort and convenience. If all goes well, you will hardly notice that your system is working to maintain the indoor climate in your home. As a result, you can easily forget about getting it checked out too. However, for the system to function properly in the long term, it is crucial to maintain it regularly.

Service engineers see it regularly: an almost overheated system that is roaring and hardly ventilates at all. In most cases, lack of maintenance is to blame. Inside the HRV-installation, considerable contamination can occur due to dust (clothing, floating dust, or dirt in the house) and/or not changing filters on time. This blockage forces the system to work harder and harder to ventilate the house properly. That increases both power consumption and decibels significantly.

You can often tell how smoothly the system works by the sound. Another indicator is a musty smell in the house. It becomes more humid inside because the air is less quickly drained. That quickly creates a hotbed for mould, bacteria, and dust mites. That is something to be avoided at all costs, given its impact on the respiratory system and overall health.

Preventing is better than curing

Is your newly built house delivered with a ventilation system or have you always had a unit at home and do not remember when it was last maintained?

Then it's time to schedule a maintenance appointment!

When which maintenance?

The following applies to all HRV ventilation systems:

Annually

Recommended basic cleaning + 2 times filter replacement*. A service engineer cleans and checks the primary parts of your installation in a short half-hour. That is best alternated with extensive maintenance every other year, see below.

*When you order filters with the service, they will be sent in advance.

Bi-annually

Comprehensive maintenance of approximately one hour: extensive cleaning including grills and valves, checking bearings, heat exchanger, condensation hose, attachment points, and readjustment of the system. This way, your installation remains in great condition.

After 7 or 8 years

All-in, very comprehensive maintenance including cleaning drain and supply channels. Over time, more and more dust, mould and flakes remain in the drains. Therefore, it is necessary to have ventilation ducts cleaned at least once every 7 to 8 years (halfway through their lifespan). For this, Intovent has put together a maintenance programme in which cleaning the channels is included.

The best option: periodical maintenance package

Choosing the right maintenance package can also have a beneficial effect on the energy consumption of your system. As a bonus, you get an optimally functioning ventilation system that you hardly need to worry about.

To ensure the air quality, it is wise to opt for periodic maintenance by a professional. The four advantages of Intovent in a row:

- Priority in scheduling a service engineer
- Priority in resolving a malfunction
- No call-out charge of €81.75 in the event of a malfunction
- A ventilation system that always works optimally

With Intovent's All-in service subscription, including duct cleaning, you can take care of it all at once. View the Intovent carefree service subscription here.

Please note: with a WTW unit, the filters should be replaced at least twice a year (+/- every 6 months) too. That is easy to do yourself. View the blog here.
